Today, the Consulate General of Nepal in New York organized a virtual tech event entitled: Tech Forward – Uniting Diaspora Talent to Power Nepal’s Digital Leap. Members of the Nepali diaspora residing in New York and eight other states on the East Coast of the USA, as well as other tech enthusiasts from different parts of the world, joined the event. The event is organized as a part of the Consulate’s outreach exercise to the Nepali diaspora working in the tech and innovation fields in the US. This event was particularly focused on exploring the possibilities to establish open communication, encourage collaborative engagement, and set the tone for future tech- and innovation-driven initiatives for Nepal’s digital leap through the engagement between the Consulate and the Nepali tech diaspora. The Consulate General collaborated with the Genese Solution to organize the event.

 
Speaking in the forum, Consul General Mr. Dadhiram Bhandari highlighted the recent initiatives of the Government of Nepal, including the IT sector-focused investment regime and favourable tax schemes. He also outlined the key features of government policies, including the recently adopted National Artificial Intelligence Policy (AI Policy) 2025 and the draft of the Digital Nepal Framework 2.0. The Consul General called for the tech community to collaborate and suggest innovative ways to achieve the socio-economic transformation of Nepal by leveraging the potential of IT services and contribute to showcasing and branding Nepal as an emerging tech-hub. Three panelists, Mr. Pravesh Rijal, Cross-river Bank; Mr. Anish Joshi, Fuesmachines and Mr. Prasanna Dhungel, GrowByData, shared their perspectives on how Nepal can work on fintech, AI, education, and healthcare sectors, among others. The panel deliberated on Nepal’s strengths, potentials and challenges in the IT Sector. They also shared their stories and experiences in the tech sector and underscored the need for investment facilitation and a more conducive environment to tap and leverage the IT sector's potential for Nepal. Genesis Solution CEO Mr. Anjani Phuyal shared success stories of Nepali companies in promoting Nepal’s IT services exports in various parts of the world and shared his thoughts on how Nepal can promote its tech identity through focused activities. The discussion was followed by an interactive session where the participants shared their comments and questions on how Nepal can leverage its IT services export for its socio-economic transformation.

This event is part of an initiative to engage with and build a strong network between the Consulate General of Nepal in New York and Nepali tech-innovation professionals on the East Coast of the USA.
